Effect of organic shock loading on anaerobic performance of pumice-reinforced up-flow anaerobic sludge bed for incineration leachate treatment

Abstract The research and application of leachate in the treatment UASB reactors are increasing, but also has problems such as poor resistance to organic load impact unstable operation. In order improve anaerobic performance stability an up-flow sludge bed reactor (UASB) subjected high loading shock, pumice was added from incineration. reinforcement effect on efficiency studied by increasing influent load. results showed that with a gradual increase [11.6?66.6 kg COD/(m 3 ?d)] without addition pumice, irreversible acidification took place (R1) when reached 14.51 ?d). average methane output content were reduced 39.7 L/d 66.16%, respectively. contrast, (R2) could still be operated stably 40.04 COD removal rate 91.80%, increased 42.30% 15.20%, analyzing microbial community structure adding selectively enrich methanogenic bacterium methanosaeta , promote decomposition volatile fatty acid (VFA), effectively mitigate inhibition VFA reactor, enhance balance between acidogenic bacteria ( Chloroflexi Proteobacteria ) Methanosaeta great degree. These prove filler can reinforce loading.
